New Moon

The Crone

How can I be substantial if I do not cast a shadow? I must have a dark side also If I am to be whole. - Carl Jung

Sometimes the one who is running from the Life/Death/Life nature insists on thinking of love as a boon only. Yet love in its fullest form is a series of deaths and rebirths. We let go of one phase, one aspect of love, and enter another. Passion dies and is brought back. Pain is chased away and surfaces another time. To love means to embrace and at the same time to withstand many endings, and many many beginnings - all in the same relationship. - Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estes

On this page you will find advice and wisdom to embody The Crone. Keep in mind that the energy of the New Moon can be felt and used a few days prior to the actual event, and a few days after. Use the images herein to stimulate felt sensations, observe them and meditate on them - in every image and every word there is a secret waiting to be revealed within. Pay attention…

Mantra for the New Moon

Before chanting your mantra, say:

Kali Queen of Shadows, help me see in the dark.

Om Klim Kalika-yei Namaha

[Om Kleem Kah-lee-kah-yea Nahm-ah-hah]

The results can be dramatic and dark, but as we now understand better: darkness is not evil but revealing of deep wisdom unseen to the regular eye. It reveals wisdom from darkness visible to the Crone and Kali as the queen of the shadows will reveal deep truth for us through this mantra. Whatever the issue, She gets right to the point and lets your ego attachments fall where they may. She is concerned with whatever will be the most beneficial outcome for you from a karmic standpoint, PERIOD.

Dear parts of my beloved self who are in the shadows, please forgive me for not coming to you before. Please know that I love you and I’m doing my best to bring you back to light and integrate you in my life. I love you and I will take care of you, so you can heal. Without you I am incomplete, I suffer your exile. My life is your life and your pain is my pain. Dear shadow self, it is safe for you to talk to me now, I will no longer reject you, ignore you or judge you and I will protect you from now on. I am willing to see you and accept you exactly as you are.

May it be so for me, may it be so for you, may it be so for all of us.

Wisdom is the Crown of the Crone

Let us embrace our darkness in the eve of the New Moon, as the Crone within ourselves has always understood that darkness is not evil but the backbone of light. Darkness is our other half. She has been cast away for ages by the patriarchy that feared Her power, the men who wanted to dominate. They forced Her to the shadows to make women submissive, telling Her she should always be gentle and nice. She has been buried for centuries in the shadows as an evil witch. Let us meet and embrace Her now.

Let us recover her wisdom in this night that holds magic for all of us who dare to look within, looking with the inner eye that only sees when the light is gone.

We are all mothers, creators. Even if we don’t reproduce actual humans, even if we don’t consciously create, every thought, breath and action is co-creating, contributing to the world.

And we are destroyers too. We bring death and destruction with our every breath, as our body shifts and transforms, cells die and are jettisoned to make way for new life.
